Bricks For Sale

NHS is raising funds by selling original Randall Hall bricks. Not sure how many of these are available, as some were re-used for the walkways around the new structure.

Click post title for the order form...$50 per brick, $12 per brick for shipping.

Almost Done

Final landscaping was done last week, just in time for Commencement 2009 which was held Friday May 22...all that is left is for the new lawn to grow out front.

Forward Into The Past!

This is the new building that will sit in the Randall Hall footprint. Thanks to New Hampton School for the courtesy photo.

Before The Fall

To start, here's a picture I took of Randall on a VERY cold day in December of 2005. Many of the subsequent photos of the demolition are taken from this same vantage point, in front of architect Frank Marinace's office (located next to the old New Hampton Post Office).

Day 1

Fittingly, the 2008 demolition began on the end of Randall Hall that housed our old "Day Student Room" on the second floor beginning in 1970. If those walls could talk! Us "Townies" had not only a living room but also a kitchen, and a bathroom with a large clawfoot bathtub that more than one of us passed out in on many a Saturday night..

Said bathtub is visible in this photo!

Day 2

I e-mailed this picture to Martin Aboitiz, NHS '75, down in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

His reply:"Hey, that's my room they are tearing up! "

Day 3

At this point, the entire third of the building closest to Lane Hall is gone. I had to take the first 3 days' pictures from this particular angle (from in front of the mini-park) because of a HUGE snowbank not seen just to the left along Main Street.

Day 4

Day 4 started with the tree people and their huge crane coming in to fell some of the trees on Randall's front lawn to enable easier access to the front of the building. Soon, the center facade was history.

I had a visit with 87 year young former NH School Head Bud Moore the same day, and he told me that he had actually lived in Randall as a senior at NHS in 1938. He lived in what was called "The Penthouse" on the 4th floor in the middle section. The middle section only had stairs going up to the 3rd floor, so the Penthouse was accessed by the end staircases.

Day 5!

More of the center section disappears. FYI, I also tried driving around the back end of the campus on Childs Road, where Captain Lou Gnerre lives, but wasn't able to get as good of a view of Randall from that angle. Note the huge (dirty) snowbanks.

Day 6

Nasty day for working, but more bricks are removed. The flag on the back part of the campus is now visible on the right side.

Day 7

A few more bricks go, and the snowbanks get a little dirtier. The flag is now easily visible.

Day 8

Two different angles today-the lower shot shows that huge snowbank I mentioned previously. They're almost to the west end of the building, which in 1970 was converted into a three-level faculty apartment first occupied by the late great Norman Brown and family.

Day 9

Taken Saturday, March 22nd. That's all, folks!
